The outing started in the morning at the Conventions Centre in Natal. Altogether, there were 10 Land Rovers with 04 passengers in each. We headed in the direction of the north coastline, more precisely to Maracajaú beach.
Along the way, weaving in and out of beaches, the participants saw diverse landscapes. We past vast coconut groves, deserted expanses of beach and river crossings, before arriving at the “Cabo de São Roque”, the closest point to the African continent. At this point on the coast there is an immense tree, which owes its growth to the strong winds in the region. Because of its strange formation, this tree is popularly known as “árvore do amor” (tree of love), and it was definitely one of the points on the trip that interested the participants most.
Further up the coast, we stopped to see the panoramic view at “Ponta Gorda” – stunning scenery that impressed everyone. There were still a few more kilometers of deserted beach before we reached Maracajaú.
When at the final destination, the group boarded a pleasant catamaran, in which we traveled up to the corals of Maracajaú. These corals, popularly known as “parrachos” (a local name for reefs), are natural swimming pools that form when the tide is low, 7km from the coast. The participants were able to appreciate the rich biotic marine life present in this very special eco-system, before returning to Natal.
On arriving in Natal, it was clear on the faces of everyone, that it had been a wonderful day out.
